Samsung's battery and electronic materials manufacturing arm Samsung SDI has reached an agreement with General Motors (GM) to build a $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery factory in the US.
As the electric vehicle revolution gains momentum, leading players in the sector, Samsung and General Motors (GM), are making significant contributions to this transformation by joining forces.
Samsung SDI, Samsung's battery and electronic materials manufacturing arm, and General Motors have decided to build a joint electric vehicle battery factory in the US state of Indiana.
This partnership will contribute to both the widespread use of electric vehicles and the stimulating effect on local economies.
The production capacity of the factory, which will start operating in 2026, was planned to be 30 GWh per year.
The companies now aim to start full production in 2027 and state that the annual capacity could increase to 36 GWh in line with their expansion plans.
The factory will produce both nickel-rich prismatic cells and cylindrical cells. In this way, the needs of different electric vehicle models can be met.
The project will be implemented with a total investment of approximately $3.5 billion. This shows how much importance the two companies attach to the future of electric vehicles.
