New Car Sales in The EU Fell by 5 Percent in March

New car sales in the European Union (EU) market decreased by 5.2 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 1 million 31 thousand 875 units.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) shared the new automobile registration data of EU countries for March.

New car sales in EU countries were recorded as 1 million 31 thousand 875 units last month, with a 5.2 percent decrease compared to the same month of 2023.

Thus, there was a decline in the EU new car market for the first time this year. This decline was caused by the Easter holiday period and the weakening of the market.

35.4 percent of new cars sold in the Union member countries are gasoline, 29 percent hybrid, 13 percent electric, 12.4 percent diesel, 7.1 percent plug-in hybrid and 3 percent 100,000 were vehicles using other fuel types.

Electric car sales decreased by 11.3 percent in March compared to the same period last year, dropping to 134 thousand 397.

New car sales decreased by 6.2 percent in Germany, 4.7 percent in Spain, 3.7 percent in Italy and 1.5 percent in France in March compared to the same period last year.

In the first quarter of the year, total sales increased by 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 2 million 768 thousand 639.

According to manufacturers, the Volkswagen Group sold the most new cars in the EU in March with 251 thousand 7 vehicles.

Volkswagen Group was followed by Stellantis Group. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold 189 thousand 81 cars.

Renault Group ranked third with 108 thousand 201 new cars, and Toyota Group ranked fourth with 79 thousand 768 new cars.
