German automaker BMW has announced that it is recalling 720,796 vehicles due to short circuit concerns.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that BMW is recalling certain vehicles covering the 2012-2018 model years.
The statement stated that an electrical connection part in the water pump may not have been properly closed, which could cause a short circuit due to exposure to water. It was noted that this short circuit could increase the risk of fire.
It was stated that the number of vehicles that may be affected by the recall is 720,796, and that dealers will inspect the water pump and connection parts of these vehicles free of charge, replace them if necessary, and install an additional protective shield.
It was noted that owners of vehicles affected by the recall will be notified starting on October 4.
BMW recalled more than 100,000 vehicles in the United States earlier this month and more than 1.3 million vehicles in China last week due to an engine defect that could lead to overheating or, in rare cases, fire.
