Ford updates electric vehicle plans: Some models canceled

Ford has made significant changes to its electric vehicle strategy. The company announced the cancellation of three SUV models.

Ford announced significant changes to its plans for the electric vehicle transition.

These changes, along with some model cancellations and delays, indicate the beginning of a new era in the company's electric vehicle strategy.

In this context, a new digital commercial vehicle is planned to be introduced in 2026 and two new advanced pickup models are planned to be launched in 2027.

The new decisions have also led to the cancellation of some electric vehicles. For example, the company has abandoned plans to produce a three-row SUV model.

Ford aims to reduce costs, increase capacity utilization and support current and future electric vehicle production by restructuring its battery supply plan in the US.

However, the share of Ford's annual capital expenditures for fully electric vehicles will decrease from 40 percent to 30 percent.

Ford says it will not introduce new electric vehicles until the models are profitable within the first year after launch, and will prioritize a new commercial electric van to begin production in 2026.
