BMW and Mercedes plan to install at least a thousand supercharging stations by the end of 2026 with their newly established company called Beijing Ion Qi New Energy Technology.
As climate change concerns increase worldwide, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly important for a sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
At the center of this transformation are electric charging stations. Developing the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is seen as a critical step towards reducing environmental pollution and increasing energy efficiency.
Beijing Ion Qi New Energy Technology, a joint venture between BMW and Mercedes-Benz, recently started operations in Beijing.
The company, founded by two arch-rivals, plans to operate a "super charging network" in the Chinese market.
The joint venture plans to build at least 1,000 high-tech supercharging stations and approximately 7,000 supercharging stations in China by the end of 2026.
BMW sold more than 40 thousand electric vehicles in China last year, increasing its sales by 138 percent compared to the previous year. BMW i3 and iX3 became the brand's best-selling models.
