In the USA, an investigation has been launched due to the risk of fuel leakage into more than 200 thousand vehicles of the automobile giant Ford.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the US auto safety regulator, has opened an investigation into Ford over allegations of diesel fuel leaks that could result in fires.
The investigation in question covers 210 thousand 960 vehicles. NHTSA said they received 27 complaints, including 12 reports of fires and a total of four injuries.
According to the information received, Ford F-250, 350, 450 and 550 Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines belonging to the 2015-2021 model years will be investigated within the scope of the investigation.
NHTSA stated that a break in the secondary fuel filter in the vehicles under investigation could result in a fire because the filter's proximity to high heat sources creates a potential for starting a fire.
NHTSA stated that it contacted the filter's manufacturer, Allevard Sogefi USA, and learned that the secondary fuel filter was tested during the manufacturing process to operate at lower pressure levels than the maximum possible operating pressure in the vehicle's fuel system.
Although Ford recommended updating the engine control software and installing a drain, NHTSA said the company's plan "does not address the root cause of the problem and does not require proactive replacement of faulty fuel injectors before they fail."
