Kia recalled 427,407 Telluride SUV models produced between 2019 and 2023.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), improper installation of the intermediate shaft and right front drive shaft can cause the vehicle to roll after being placed in park.
This causes the vehicle to move undesirably if the handbrake is not applied.
Kia will begin notifying vehicle owners about the recall on May 15.
Customers who take their vehicles to a Kia dealer will be installed with updated electronic parking brake software that will engage the parking brake when in Park and the engine off.
