Acura has made a bold move in its electrification journey with the global debut of the Acura Performance EV Concept, offering a glimpse into the future of its premium-performance all-electric model. Unveiled at Monterey Car Week, one of the most prestigious events for automotive and motorsports enthusiasts, the Acura concept introduces an exhilarating performance SUV designed by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles.
With production slated for late 2025, the new Acura model, inspired by the Acura Performance EV Concept, will be the first vehicle built on Honda's all-new EV platform. It will also be the first electric vehicle produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, underscoring Acura’s commitment to a sustainable and high-performance future.
The Acura Performance EV Concept marks a significant milestone in our electrification journey, as it introduces the design direction of our upcoming all-new, fully electric Acura model set to debut next year,” said Mike Langel, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales. “Following the successful launch of the all-electric 2024 Acura ZDX, our next all-electric SUV will continue to offer an exhilarating driving experience, embodying the brand’s commitment to a thrilling future of electrified vehicles.
The Acura Performance EV Concept showcases the brand’s vision for the future of electric vehicles, featuring a sleek, vented hood that extends forward from the A-pillars and striking side vents carved into the deeply sculpted body. Inspired by the form and functionality of hydrofoil superyachts, the concept boasts an aggressive front fascia designed for both performance and aesthetics.
Finished in a captivating "Moonlit White Pearl" paint with a semi-matte finish, the vehicle's coupe-like silhouette and teardrop cabin exude sophistication. At the rear, design elements such as an upswept decklid, full-width taillight, and large diffuser pay tribute to the second-generation NSX. "ACURA" is boldly displayed across the tailgate in a new font, exclusive to the brand’s electrified lineup.
The Acura Performance EV Concept exemplifies our design ethos in the electrified era, pushing the boundaries of Acura design by leveraging the design flexibility of our next-gen EV platform,” said Dave Marek, Acura Design Executive. "As with previous Acura concepts, this model introduces design elements that will influence future Acura vehicles.
The vehicle’s athletic stance is highlighted by a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and muscular wheel arches. The 23-inch wheels, wrapped in wide 295/35R23 performance tires, feature a sculptural design with brushed machined edges and a unique spoke pattern that conveys motion even when stationary.
Each corner of the concept is equipped with high-performance brakes, featuring Moonlit White four-piston calipers, with neon green Acura branding—a nod to the Acura Electric Vision Design Study unveiled at Monterey Car Week 2023.
The Acura Performance EV Concept is the fifth concept to be showcased at Monterey Car Week in the past decade, following notable entries like the NSX Concept (2013), Precision Concept (2016), Type S Concept (2019), and Precision EV Concept (2022).
The concept will debut publicly at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, August 16, followed by a press event at 10:36 a.m. It will also be displayed at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, August 18.
Honda EV Hub
Honda is making strides in establishing the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, a key facility for electric vehicle production in North America. As part of the company’s plans to start EV production at the Marysville Auto Plant in late 2025, extensive retooling efforts are underway, including preparations for the production of vehicles and the assembly of the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), which integrates the EV battery into the vehicle platform. Honda is investing $700 million in the transformation of its Marysville, East Liberty, and Anna plants to lead EV production in North America.
We began manufacturing Acura vehicles in the U.S. nearly 30 years ago, and we’re excited to make an Acura SUV the first EV built at the Honda EV Hub,” said Mike Fischer, executive chief engineer of the Honda North American BEV Project. “The Honda EV Hub not only marks the beginning of EV production but also redefines our manufacturing process to set a global standard for EV production.
A significant part of the Honda EV Hub is the construction of the L-H Battery Company, Inc., a 2-million-square-foot joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution near Jeffersonville, Ohio. This $3.5 billion investment, with an expected total of $4.4 billion, will produce approximately 40GWh annually and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.
